Antoine Manier(France)
Director, Rencontres Audiovisuelles
Antoine Manier developed a passion for audiovisual creation at the age of 11, carrying out all kinds of experiments with the family camcorder. The production of several short films led him to a love of cinema, then to an audiovisual high school. He continued to direct and discovered amateur video festivals where he received several awards.
With his baccalaureate in hand, he created the Rencontres Audiovisuelles association in 1998, with the aim of producing and distributing short films; he then began to travel the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region (North of France) with a video projector under his arm to present short film programs.
In 2001, he created the “Rencontres Audiovisuelles” festival, dedicated to digital creation, integrating short film sessions, conferences and audiovisual workshops. The success of the event made it possible to perpetuate the event, which would become the International Short Film Festival from 2004.
Since the beginning of the 2000s, Antoine Manier has been interested in new images and regularly programs VJing, performances, interactive forms, the beginnings of web creation, etc.
In 2002, he created Ciné Soupe, an awareness program for traveling short films in the north french region, supplemented by image education workshops.
In 2004, he launched the Fête de l’anim’, a second festival supported by the association and dedicated exclusively to animated films. He is particularly involved in this form of creation, whether through this festival or the programming of animated films in other contexts. Antoine Manier initiated and participated in the creation of Noranim, an the regional animation sector in 2009. At the same time, he also became treasurer of the AFCA (national organization for animation field) and works in particular to establish the National Animation Film Festival in Rennes.
In 2007, he created L'hybride in Lille, which still remains today the only French cinema entirely dedicated to short films.
In the 2010s, he worked on several innovative projects: serious game for image education, collective interaction system in cinemas, artistic residencies, and he encountered video mapping with a first project produced in 2011.
Taken by a passion for this format, surprised by the lack of structure in the sector, he set up in 2017 within the Rencontres Audiovisuelles a support system for the mapping sector, the Video Mapping European Center, which combines research, training, residency and production . In 2018, the association launched the Video Mapping Festival, the first festival dedicated solely to video mapping, and the IBSIC conference, which has become the first professional meeting in the international mapping industry. The Rencontres Audiovisuelles association is today recognized as one of the major international organisation in the video mapping sector.
